September Book Haul & Wrap Up + October TBR + Favourites from the Third Quarter of the Year

Hey guys!

Another month is over and here I am. Today is going to be a very long post as I will be doing a Book Haul, a Wrap Up, a TBR and finally I will tell you which ones are my favourite books from the third quarter of the year.

So, without further ado let´s jump right into the post.

Book Haul

This month I have received many review books by Spanish authors. Those that have a review will appear on read to you so in case you are interested just click. Please notice, that those books as well as their review are in Spanish and will only be published in Spanish, at least in the short term.

El largo invierno del corazón by Manuel Pérez Recio

This book was given to me by the author to review. It´s a thriller like the Cuco’s Calling. I will tell you more of my thoughts in the Wrap Up part of this post.

Hijos del Destino. EL legado de Darena by R.M. Madera

This is a fantasy book that was also given me for the author in exchange of an honest review. I will talk in further detail about this book in the Wrap Up part of this post.

Arena Roja ded Gema Bonnin

This book is the one that Noe and I chose to read in April for our monthly book club. I bought it on one of my latest trips to my local book store. It was one of the few that I didn’t have and you know I bought it just because. I think it has female gladiator but don’t quote on that one cause I am not sure.

The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin

On the same trip to the book store that I used to purchase the previous book I bought this one. I know that I still have the first book in the series and haven’t read it yet. But it was just 8 euros and in that way if I want to marathon books 1 and 2 I can.

Tales by Oscar Wilde

There is a Spanish publisher company that has a basic collection of classic, like the Penguin English Library but way cheaper. I am in love with these books not only because it´s price but also because its covers.

The Assassin´s Blade by Sarah J.Maas

These was the only book that I haven’t own written by Sarah J.Maas at the moment that I bought it. This is the bind up of all the prequel novellas of the Throne of Glass series. I will talk in further detail about this book in the next part of this post.

Ocean´s Fire by Sacey Tucker

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review. I have already read this book and I will be talking a little bit more about this in the Wrap Up.

Children of Daedala by Caighlan Smith

I requested this book for review via NetGalley and the publisher was kind enough to provide with a copy. It´s a fantasy book that will come out next April. I will read it and when the publishing date is closer I will post my review.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I´ve been hearing about this book for the longest time. I saw it on my favourite library and it was for a very good price. I know very few about this book and I want that to stay in that way cause as you guys know if you´ve been here for a while I like to go into books knowing as few as possible.

I met the author because he is one of the workers in my favourite book store. He told me he was an author and told me a bit about the book. I bought it and read it. I will tell you all my thought on it in the Wrap Up.

La última habitación by Carlos Navas

This book was given to me by the author in exchange of an honest review. This book was good. Is a thriller and as I have already read it, I will tell you more on my Wrap Up.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J.Maas

I saw this was a novella about Chaol and if you know me at all you know that I am trash for this guy. I need to read it, as soon as I have read all the books from Heir of Fire on.

Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

This book has two things that I love: Wonderwoman and Leigh Bardugo. Do I need to say anything else?

A Poison Dark and Drowing by Jessica Cluess

I read the first book in this trilogy and completely felt in love with the story. I was lucky enough to discover that the second one was coming out this month. I have it and I have read it already so I will tell you more in the Wrap Up.

Lud-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrlees

If you don’t know this about me, you probably don´t know me, but I like to research books. I found that a Spanish publisher company was re-editing it and I asked for a copy. They were kind enough to send me a copy.

El Jardín de Sonoko by David Crespo
This book looked so pretty so I asked a copy to Penguin Spain and they send it to me. It just arrived on Friday so I have read it yet but I am very much looking forward to it.

Wrap Up

As usual if there is a review for any of the books that I am talking about it will be linked on the title, the title will appear in read. Also, As I have done quite a few interviews this month so if the name of the author is written in red the interview is liked. If the title of the book is in Spanish both the review and the interview are written in Spanish as well.

I requested this book for review to the Publisher and I am extremely happy I did so. It´s a fantasy book that makes us want to reread Harry Potter once more. I gave this book 4 out 5 stars.

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

I absolutely loved this book once I passed the first 50 pages. I think I don’t need much to convince you to read it: witches, sorcerers, magicians, feminism and Victorian London. Do you need anything else to read it? I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This book has been in my TBR since June when the author gifted me a copy. IT´s a very interesting story in which we follow a cat that while telling his story tells us the history of Madrid, my city. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

Select by Marit Wiesenberg

I received an ARC of this book back in May and I was very much looking forward to reading it but I postponed reading it because the publication date was very far away. Finally, this moth I read it and I like it. It´s a mix between Twilight and Shadowhunters but it´s able to stand of its own. You will have my full review tomorrow. Now know that I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

Aaru by David Meredith

The author contacted with me back in august and asked me to review this book I agreed because it seemed like something I would really enjoyed. This book is a syfy in which we follow a girl with cancer that in order to save her life must put her conscience inside of a computer. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it. Is a story very focus in the characters and as I didn’t like any it was hard to read. I gave it 1 out of 5 stars.

El largo invierno del corazón by Manuel Pérez Recio

As I have told you earlier this is a book that was sent to me for review by the author. This book is quite similar to the Cuco’s calling by Robert Galbraith with one tiny difference, this I liked and the one by Robert Galbraith I did not. I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

How haven’t I read this book before? I don’t know but I absolutely love it. I discover Leigh Bardugo thanks to Six of Crows and now I am very much looking forward to reading every single book that she has ever written or will ever write. This is the first book in the Grisha trilogy and now I am very much looking forward to reading the other two books in the trilogy. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

I think by now you guys know that this is my favourite book. And I know that I have already read it this year but it was the book that Noe and I chose for our book club so I read it again. I will post a review in English in the future, but if you want you can check my Spanish review that is linked as usual in the title. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is completely amazing. I love it because it´s a thriller in which we follow a hitman that finds himself involve in the assassination attempt of one prime minister. It´s very short but it´s written in such a way that you cannot help but fell in love with the writing. I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Hijos del Destino. El legado de Darena by R.M. Madera

As I have already said on the book haul this book was given to me for review by the author. Unfortunately, I did not like it despite being a fantasy book. I ended up giving it 1 out of 5 stars.

La última habitación by Carlos Navas

This book was also send to me for review by the author. It´s that kind of read that is perfect for the fall and mostly for Halloween. Is a mystery that is told mostly in phone calls. I gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

City of Bones by Cassadra Clare

This book is the one that I had to read this month for the Mundane Book Club, in which we are reading in publication order all the books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. This month we read City of Bones and I have like it very much. I gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The Assassin´s Blade by Sarah J.Maas

This is the collection of all the prequel novellas of the Throne of Glass series. There have been some that I have really enjoyed and some that I haven’t like as much. Overall, I gave this book 4.1 out of 5 stars.

A Poison Dark and Drowning by Jessica Cluess

This book is the second instalment in the A Shadow Bright and Burning Trilogy and I have love this one even more than the first. I mean I have read 2 books by the same author in a month, that is something considering I don’t usually do it. Overall, I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars and you can wait for my review very soon.

TBR

I am not quite sure in what mood I´ll be this month so I will only tell you about the books I am sure I will be reading:

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This is the book that Noe and I have chosen to read this month in our book club. I´ve be told that if you liked The Night Circus you will like this one and I loved The Night Circus so we shall see.

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

This is the book that we will be reading in the Mundane Book club this month.

Favourites from the Third Quarter of the Year

The truth is that with very few exceptions I have read quite a few amazing books. Narrowing down this list to just 5 was kind of impossible so I have cheated a little bit.

My top 5, in no particular order is:

Uprooted by Naomi Novick

A Shadow Bright and Burning and A Poison Dark and Drowning by Jessica Cluees (these books are part of the same story so technically is not cheating)

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

That was all for today. Will you recommend any book to me? What have been your favourite books? What have been your favourites of this quarter? What have you read this month?

See you all next Monday.
