Wrap Up May 2016
Hello
Everyone,
Considering
that I´ve got finals this month I´ve read a ton. I´ve read a total of 15 books;
so without further do let´s get started
.
This is the
first book I read this month and I wrote a full review (which you can see by
clicking on the title). The Young Elites was that kind of books that takes you
to places you weren´t expecting to go at all and I think that´s the main reason
why I liked that much.
As I´ve
just said there is a review uploaded so check that one out if you are
interested because I think that it´s al said when I told you that I gave this
book 5 out of 5 stars.
The Axeman´s Jazz
by Ray Celestin
I was
really looking to read this book. I loved mystery books and I am very intrigue
with the whole serial killer thing. As a matter of fact, if I wasn’t studying
finances I will be studying criminology or something related with it.
The book
has a very interesting premise but the author fails at telling the story making
it boring. The main issue was that there were way too many characters and it
was hard to like one. Besides, what is the point on including Louis Amstrong?
The
Axeman´s Jazz was a huge disappointment and I gave it 2 out 5 stars.
This book
was a birthday present by my parents and I absolutely loved this book. I wrote
a full review for it that you can read by clicking on the title of the book.
As I mentioned
on its review I like ow beautifully written it was and how even when the
politics were an important part of the story it wasn´t the main focus of it. I also
love how strong the two main characters are, each in their own way.
The Nightingale
is one of those books that you must read at least once in a life time. I gave
this one 5 out of 5 stars.
I was given
this book in exchange for an honest review by its author. David Meredith
contact me and gave a copy. You can purchase this book on Amazon and you can
find my review of this one by clicking on the title.
Regarding the
book I will say that it was so interesting . it was kind of a retiling at the
same time that it was “what happen after the happily ever after?”. It was a nice point of view and it was such a
quick read. Thos who loved the original version of the tale most likely will
love this one.
I gave it 3
out of 5 stars.
I will be
posting a review of this one this Friday so stay tuned if you are interested
in.
I was so
surprised by this book that I will say that I was on shock. The writing was magnificent
and the characters so on point. And the story goes places you won´t expected it
to go. I will talk about it in further detail on Friday. Until then know that I
gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
I am not
going to talk about this book in further detail because there is no point in
talking about a book that has only been published here in Spain. Trust me you
are lucky.
I will say
though, that this book was so annoying as that the story is that there is no
story at all. I gave this book 1 out of 5 stars because Goodreads won´t let me
give negative scores.
Niebla Trilogy by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
I hadn´t
read anything by Zafón previous this one and I absolutely loved it. I read each
of the books in this trilogy in one sitting. The writing is magnificent and the
characters are so likeable.
I will be
posting a review in Spanish for this one very soon. The English version will be
uploaded later on. But if you have the chance go and read this trilogy form by
The Prince of the Mist, The
Midnight Palace and The Watcher in the Shadows.
I gave this
trilogy 5 out of 5 stars.
In the Valley of
the Fox by Charlotte Link
In the
Valley of the Fox is a story in which we follow several different characters
that are affected by the strangeness in a missing person case. I cannot say
that much because I will spoil you and I do not want to.
The book is
so entertaining and despite having over 500 pages (in its Spanish edition) it
such a fast page and quick read. The style is so efficient there is not a
single word that is not needed to tell the story. The main issue that I found
in the book is that the character did not have any growth by the opposite.
Any way I have
to recognize that I was trapped by the story and despite knowing what was going
to happen at the end, I have quite enjoyed this book so I gave it 3 out of 5
stars.
I absolutely
loved this book and it´s my favorite one of the month. The writing was amazing
as well were the characters and the plot.
I wrote a
full review that you can check by clicking on the title of the book.
I gave it 5
out of 5 stars because again Goodreads won´t let me gave a higher score.
I was given
this book in exchange of an honest review. And even when I have some issues
with the story and how the topic is treated I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
It´s a hard
book t read because it deals with some serious issues that sometimes are not
treated according to reality. However I find it to be a tribute to the victims
of domestic violence and I think it´s a brave book.
You can purchased
it in Amazon. And you can check my full review by clicking on the title of the
book.
I did not enjoy
this book most likely because it’s the 4th in a series in which I haven’t
read I single book. I found that there was not world building and that I don´t
like the characters. You can read my full review by clicking on the title of
the book.
I gave it 2
out of 5 stars.
The Shadow of the
Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
I´ve been
hearing so great things about this book that I was really looking forward to read
it. When I did read this book I was so disappointed. Even when I respect
different opinions I cannot see what is in this book to like.
The character
are all variations of the main character and the mystery is solve in an absurd
way when tha authors seams to decide is time to finish the book. I will post a
review with all my toughs very soon. Until then know that I gave this book 2
out of 5 stars.
Cuentos by Edgar
Allan Poe
This book it’s
a collection of ten short stories by the author. I hadn´t read any by Allan Poe
previous to this one and I’ve absolutely love it. The stories are dark and
mysterious and well written.
I´ve liked
all the short stories in this book but if I had to pick one I will choose The
System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether.
That´s all what I’ve read during this month? What have you read? Have you read any of these books? What are your thoughts if so? Do you have any recommendations for June? Leave a comment down below so we can talk.
See you all
soon.
